This policy explains what AmsterdamTourism.org collects when you read the site, why, and what you can do about it. It describes the site as it is configured today. If we change what runs here, we change this page.
Who is responsible
AmsterdamTourism.org is the data controller for this website. The site is a travel publication; we are not a booking platform and we never take payment details. To exercise any of the rights described below, or to ask what we hold, use the contact page.
What we collect
When you just read the site
Our hosting provider records standard server logs — your IP address, the page requested, the time, your browser and operating system, and the page that referred you. These are generated automatically by the web server, are used to keep the site running and to investigate abuse, and are retained for a limited period by the host.
When you use the contact form
The form collects your name, your email address, a subject line and your message, so that we can reply. It is delivered to our editorial inbox. We keep correspondence only for as long as it is useful — typically until the query is resolved and, for corrections, until the change has been made and verified. We do not add contact-form senders to any mailing list, and we do not sell or share this information.

Cookies and similar technologies
A cookie is a small file a site stores in your browser. This site sets very little itself; most of what is stored comes from the analytics and advertising services described below. Not everything described here is a cookie — advertising partners also use similar identifiers, which is why this section covers those as well.
- Strictly necessary. Our caching layer and WordPress may set cookies needed to serve pages correctly. These cannot be switched off without breaking the site.
- Analytics. Google Analytics 4, connected through Google Site Kit, tells us which guides get read, how people arrive, and roughly where in the world they are. It sets cookies in your browser and processes an identifier tied to your device. We use it in aggregate; we do not attempt to identify individual readers.
- Search Console. Google Search Console is connected for search-performance reporting. It reports on aggregated search data and does not set cookies on your visit.
- Advertising. Mediavine, which sells and serves the ads on this site, and the advertising partners it works with may set cookies and similar identifiers to select and measure ads. Where the law requires your permission first, they are not loaded until you give it. The detail is under “Advertising” below.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and where a privacy control is shown for your location you can change or withdraw your choice through it at any time, as described under “Consent” below. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the site working.
Advertising
This site is funded by display advertising. Our ads are sold and served by Mediavine, an advertising network, through its Journey platform. We do not choose the individual ads you see, they are clearly distinguishable from the guides, and advertisers have no say in what we write.
Mediavine and the advertising partners it works with may set cookies and similar identifiers to select ads, limit how often you see the same one, and measure whether an ad was seen. Where the law requires your permission first, they are not loaded until you give it.
Those partners can use what they collect to show you ads based on your visits to this and other websites. Beyond the controls described under “Consent” below, you can opt out of interest-based advertising from many networks at aboutads.info/choices or youronlinechoices.com, and from Google’s through Google Ads Settings.
Nothing on this site is sponsored content, and no business has paid to appear here or to be described the way it is. There are no affiliate links either: we earn no commission on anything you book after following a link from this site.
Consent
Where the law requires your consent before non-essential cookies are set — which includes visitors in the EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland — you are asked for it before advertising cookies load, and your choice is recorded.
Mediavine provides the consent tools for the advertising on this site. Depending on where you are, a privacy control appears at the bottom of the page — Manage Preferences in the UK and EU, or Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information in the US states that grant that right — and you can change or withdraw your choice at any time through it. These controls are shown according to your location, so if no such law applies where you are, you may not see one; you can still block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Mediavine adds its own advertising privacy notice to the end of this page, and its privacy policy covers what it collects.
Third parties we rely on
- Our hosting provider, who stores the site and its server logs.
- Google, for Analytics 4, Search Console and PageSpeed Insights.
- Mediavine, which sells and serves the display advertising on this site, and the advertising partners it works with.
- Image and performance tooling running on our own server, which optimises images and caches pages. This does not send your data anywhere.
We link out to museums, transport operators, restaurants and official Dutch government sites. Those sites have their own privacy policies and we are not responsible for them. Following a link from here means their rules apply, not ours.
Your rights
If you are in the EEA or the UK you have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it erased, to restrict or object to how it is processed, and to receive it in a portable form. Ask through the contact page and we will respond within one month. Our lawful basis for analytics and advertising cookies is your consent; for the contact form it is our legitimate interest in answering you, and for server logs it is our legitimate interest in operating and securing the site.
If you are in the EEA you may also complain to your national supervisory authority.
If you are a California resident, or live in another US state with a comparable privacy law, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not sell or share anything you send us through the contact form. The advertising cookies described above can count as sharing under those laws, and the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information control Mediavine shows in those states is how you opt out of it.
Children
This site is written for adults planning travel and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has sent us information through the contact form, tell us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We update this page when what runs on the site changes — a new analytics tool, a change in how advertising works here, a change in the consent mechanism. Material changes will be reflected here rather than announced separately, so it is worth rereading if you care about the detail.
