This policy explains what AmsterdamTourism.org collects when you read the site, why, and what you can do about it. It describes the site as it is configured today. If we change what runs here, we change this page.
Who is responsible
AmsterdamTourism.org is the data controller for this website. The site is a travel publication; we are not a booking platform and we never take payment details. To exercise any of the rights described below, or to ask what we hold, use the contact page.
What we collect
When you just read the site
Our hosting provider records standard server logs — your IP address, the page requested, the time, your browser and operating system, and the page that referred you. These are generated automatically by the web server, are used to keep the site running and to investigate abuse, and are retained for a limited period by the host.
When you use the contact form
The form collects your name, your email address, a subject line and your message, so that we can reply. It is delivered to our editorial inbox. We keep correspondence only for as long as it is useful — typically until the query is resolved and, for corrections, until the change has been made and verified. We do not add contact-form senders to any mailing list, and we do not sell or share this information.

Cookies and similar technologies
A cookie is a small file a site stores in your browser. This site sets very little itself; most of what is stored comes from the analytics and advertising services described below.
- Strictly necessary. Our caching layer and WordPress may set cookies needed to serve pages correctly. These cannot be switched off without breaking the site.
- Analytics. Google Analytics 4, connected through Google Site Kit, tells us which guides get read, how people arrive, and roughly where in the world they are. It sets cookies in your browser and processes an identifier tied to your device. We use it in aggregate; we do not attempt to identify individual readers.
- Search Console. Google Search Console is connected for search-performance reporting. It reports on aggregated search data and does not set cookies on your visit.
- Advertising. This site is funded by advertising. Where advertising is served, Google and its partners may set cookies or use device identifiers to select and measure ads. Google’s own explanation of how it uses data from sites that use its services is at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of personalised Google advertising at adssettings.google.com. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the site working.
Consent
Where the law requires your consent before non-essential cookies are set — which includes visitors in the EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland — we use a Google-certified consent management platform to ask for it and to record your choice. You can reopen that choice at any time from the consent control on the page. If you are reading this and no consent control has appeared, that means the consent platform is not yet active for your region; you can still control cookies through your browser settings and through the Google ad settings link above, and we would be glad to hear from you via the contact page.
Third parties we rely on
- Our hosting provider, who stores the site and its server logs.
- Google, for Analytics 4, Search Console, PageSpeed Insights and advertising.
- Image and performance tooling running on our own server, which optimises images and caches pages. This does not send your data anywhere.
We link out to museums, transport operators, restaurants and official Dutch government sites. Those sites have their own privacy policies and we are not responsible for them. Following a link from here means their rules apply, not ours.
Your rights
If you are in the EEA or the UK you have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it erased, to restrict or object to how it is processed, and to receive it in a portable form. Ask through the contact page and we will respond within one month. Our lawful basis for analytics and advertising cookies is your consent; for the contact form it is our legitimate interest in answering you, and for server logs it is our legitimate interest in operating and securing the site.
If you are in the EEA you may also complain to your national supervisory authority. In the Netherlands this is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not sell personal information for money. To opt out of personalised advertising, use the Google ad settings link above or the consent control on the page.
Children
This site is written for adults planning travel and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has sent us information through the contact form, tell us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We update this page when what runs on the site changes — a new analytics tool, a change in how advertising is served, a change in the consent mechanism. Material changes will be reflected here rather than announced separately, so it is worth rereading if you care about the detail.
